So often in relationships, we are aware of the other person’s needs and work to fulfill them. While this is a wonderful trait, it can lead to burnout if we chronically neglect ourselves. Here are some self-care tips that actually help strengthen our relationships with others:
Take Care of Your Physical Needs
It’s been said so many times before, but make sure you are drinking enough water, eating healthy food, and getting sufficient rest. When you prioritize your own physical well-being, you have more strength and energy to devote to others.
Feel Your Feelings
Take responsibility for your own emotional experiences. That means allowing yourself to acknowledge and process difficult emotions. This will improve your relationships, as you won’t be blaming others for any inner conflict you may have.
Connect With Friends
The truth is that no one single person can fulfill all your relational needs. Friends can bring something unique to your life, as the relationship is different. When you are well taken care of socially, you relieve the burden on your spouse or significant other to attempt to meet all your needs.
Schedule Down Time
We live in a culture that thrives on business, but the truth is that we need down time to do nothing! We can’t just go, go, go all the time. Schedule time to just relax and decompress.
Make Time To Play
We often schedule play time for our kids, but you yourself need play time too! It’s so important to create opportunities to laugh, to be creative, and to get in touch with your inner child. This can help lighten the mood in your relationships and keep you young.
