Healing Outdoors – What is it?
Healing outdoors is a unique therapy approach that allows you to have your individual or couple counseling session on a local mountain trail. If the mountain trail isn’t for you but being outside is, we can have your session at a city park or walking trail.
How it works
Healing Outdoors therapy sessions occur on a local mountain or city park trail with Michael Boman, LCSW. The opportunity to walk by a rushing stream can be therapeutic in its own right. Imagine taking in the summer wildflower beauty as you talk with your therapist. The crunching of freshly fallen snow, or aspen leaves during the autumn season. All while interacting with your therapist about what is currently holding you back in your life.
What problems are addressed?
Just like therapy sessions in an office, many problems can be addressed in the outdoors. A non-inclusive list is included below:
- Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)
- Life Balance issues
- Grief/Loss issues
- Marriage problems
- Men’s Issues
- Work/Employment stress
- Women’s Issues
- Relationship Problems
What are the benefits?
As noted previously, the opportunity to be outside while having a therapy session is unique. It’s also beautiful. It’s also fun. It’s healing! Aside from these benefits, the potential to move forward in your life truly is wonderful. Whether your struggle is depression, anxiety, or relationship issues, Healing Outdoors can help you overcome these challenges.
A very common problem for those living in Salt Lake Valley is Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD. You know, the depressed feeling you experience from November through February that seems to overwhelm you. It seems to rob you of energy, happiness, and motivation. This problem impacts nearly 10 percent of the population who have classic symptoms. Many others just feel the “winter blues.” If this sounds like you, Healing Outdoors therapy could be just your ticket to happier you this winter season.
What age groups do you serve?
Healing Outdoors therapy sessions are generally designed for adults 18 years old and above.
How do I get started?
Getting started requires a minimal amount of effort to get your Healing Outdoors journey rolling.
Simply contact our Office Manager, Brittany, at 801-944-4555 or email. Brittany will set up a client portal that will allow you to complete the Healing Outdoors therapy consent forms on line. It’s really that easy.
Your initial session with me, Michael Boman, LCSW, will be at our Cottonwood Heights office location. During the session, an initial assessment will be completed to discuss the problems that you’d like to address. The logistics of your Healing Outdoors therapy will also be addressed. For example, where we will be having your Healing Outdoors counseling session the following week. This would likely be in Big Cottonwood Canyon or on a local walking trail. We will also discuss whether your level of fitness would be an appropriate fit for Healing Outdoors therapy. The initial paperwork explains this requirement well.
The key is that you begin moving forward, now. I look forward to working with you on your journey of Healing Outdoors. What are you waiting for? Make that phone call or email contact to begin healing in northern Utah’s wonderful outdoors!
