Kate Hofer, LPC (Provo)

Kate Hofer

Master’s of Arts in Professional Counseling, Ottawa University

Child clients call me the “Play Doctor”. Children in play therapy with me are able to have a non-judgmental safe place to have a corrective experience and increase emotional intelligence. Today’s children need help nourishing their imagination, creativity, empathy and social skills. Play and art therapy actually helps sculpt the brain to form new neural connections. I enjoy training parents in filial play therapy, helping the parent to become the change agent in the playroom and in therapeutic play at home. Experiential family therapy helps the whole family create cohesion, unity and positive energy together. When a family engages in cooperative play together, they become attuned to each other.

I have witnessed how clients of all ages work through emotional difficulties in our safe, accepting therapy relationship as they learn mindfulness and create symbolic metaphors of thoughts, feelings and experiences in a non-threatening way. I find it rewarding to facilitate and guide a client to discover their true authentic core self. Creative expression helps a client travel inward to places where images are found unique to the individual, providing direction to wellbeing and healing. I love sharing the journey of self -discovery, self -acceptance and self- compassion in the healing of body, mind and spirit.
